Brahmleen Shri Mahant Indiresh Charan Dass Ji, Founder Of SGRR Education Mission

Shri Guru Ram Rai Education Mission was established in 1952. Presently, it is running over 122 educational Institutions in North India. Uttarakhand has a literacy rate of 79.63% and Shri Guru Ram Rai Education Mission has made a significant contribution to it and is committed to its further improvement with a vision in hand.

Free education is provided to all the students in Laxman Sanskrit Mahavidyalya, Shri Laxman Vidyalya Intermediate College and Shri Guru Ram Rai Girls Inter College. In all the public schools fees is low enough within the reach of the common man and textbooks are provided to the students at a discount of 25% to 30%. Over 1,00,000 students are studying in all institutions of Mission from primary to Ph.D. level.

Gauging the dearth of professionals vis-a-vis the ongoing open economy and globalisation, in 1994 the Mission established Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Technology and Science at Dehradun with prior permission from All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj

Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj is a religious and philanthropic organisation funded by Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji, son of Shri Guru Har Rai Ji, the seventh Sikh Guru. It dates back to 1676 AD. The city of Dehradun was christened so, when Shri Ruru Ram Rai Ji put up its "Dera" (Settlement) in Doon Valley. The then Mughal emperor Aurangzeb gifted the town of Dehradun (in its original splendour, it was of 6 villages) to the Guru. The rich heritage and golden history is quite evident in the architectural splendour of the Darbar and the holy Gurudwara.

Sajjada Nashin Shri Mahant

Darbar Sahib, its properties and institutions are administered by its Sajjada Nashin Shri Mahant. The Sajjada Nashin Shri Mahants are sequentially nominated by the Sajjada Nashin during his life time. The nineth Mahant Brahmaleen Shri Indiresh Charan Dass Ji Maharaj, a great educationist of 20th century, had a vision of rendering services for the promotion of social well-being through education and healthcare. His disciple and successor Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji Maharaj brought his dream into reality. He has established a 1,000 bedded hospital, a Medical College with 150 MBBS seats, a Paramedical college, a Nursing College and introduced Pharm. D, Pharm D.(PB), B.Sc. Agriculture, B.Ed., M.Sc. (Pharm Chemistry), M.Sc. (Life Sciences), M.Sc. (RSCGIS) B.Sc. (Biotechnology) and opened 25 more public schools with in a short span. The present Sajjada Nashin Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji, a highly educated and enlightened person, devoted to the cause to which Shri Darbar Sahib and its subsidiary institutions are committed.

Social and Religious Services

Since its very beginning, Darbar Sahib is running a community kitchen (langar) where in more than 1000 devotees take prasad twice a day. In keeping with its tradition of philanthropy and charity, Darbar Sahib provides donations for needy persons, wandering sages, poor students and destitutes. Financial assistance and help in various forms is provided to needy girls from poor families for their education and marriage. Besides this, Darbar Sahib has been generously helping victims of earthquakes, floods and other natural calamities. Free lodging and boarding facilities are also available at Darbar Sahib for all devotees, followers, visitors and needy students.
